Our company

Densu-Coir - Specifically produced for the horticulture industry. It is not produced as a byproduct of the fiber industry like traditionally available coir. Instead fiber is a byproduct of our proprietary coir producing operation. Our coir products have several features that are of prime importance to the horticultural industry. Densu-Coir products absorb more water and at a faster rate than regular coir. Our products have better yield rates than other coir products on the market.

We ship our products in Ready to Use, Ready to Mix form. There is no need to soak or grind bricks! This allows our customers to avoid the issue of dust production associated with coir mixing operations. The results are a cleaner workplace environment and better quality product. Because Densu-Coir is NOT a byproduct of the fiber-making industry our husks are NEVER soaked in salt water and so contain less salts which are further removed by our own spring water source with a 7.8 pH level making our product almost neutral in acidity. We use NO ADDITIVES or ash in the production of our coir products to achieve our low EC values.

Try our all-natural Densu-Coir products and you will be using the best growing medium that nature can provide.

Densu Ventures Inc. is a premier and unique manufacturer of high quality Horticultural grade coir product called Densu-Coir. We use a process that is environmentally friendly and safe to manufacture our products. 99% of all available coir product are derived as byproduct from the production of coconut fiber. The production of coconut fiber requires that coconut husks be soaked in salt water for as long as 18 months. Densu-Coir products are custom manufactured specifically for use by professional growers in the horticultural industry. Over the last 8 years we have worked closely with a large US manufacturer of potting mixes to develop a base coir product that is unique to the horticultural industry. We have developed a unique manufacturing process that allows us to custom make our products to suit the particular requirements of our customers. We have a process that makes our products more granular in structure so it is able to absorb more water faster than traditionally available coir products. Our products have inherently lower EC levels than those of the competition. To make our products more user friendly to our customers we ship our coir products in a ready to use form that requires NO SOAKING or GRINDING. This saves our customers time and money as well.

What is Coir?

Coir is a coarse fiber obtained from the tissues surrounding the seed of the coconut palm, Cocos nucifera. The intact fruit has a smooth leathery skin above the thick fibrous layer. This surrounds the stony dark brown shell, which is actually part of the fruit rather than the seed. Inside the shell are the papery brown outer layer of the seed surrounding the nutritious white flesh and the embryo. The fibrous layer forms a strong, shock-absorbing mesh which protects the seed from mechanical damage and is water-resistant. The individual fiber cells are narrow and hollow, with thick walls made of cellulose. They are pale when immature but later they become hardened and yellowed when a layer of lignin, a complex woody chemical, is deposited on their walls. Mature brown coir fibers contain more lignin and less cellulose than fibers such as flax and cotton and so are stronger but less flexible. White fiber is smoother and finer than the harder brown fiber but is also weaker. The coir fiber is the only natural fiber resistant to damage by salt water.
